“Where did Fay Godwin go to improve her photography? And where did Paul Graham get his early education in art photography?”
Well, they went to the Peak District’s “The Photographer’ Place”.
Derbyshires The Photographers’ place was the first permanent photography workshop and study center in the UK, and is now back after an absence of 14 years!
The place also claims partial credit for a whole generation of photographers setting up independent groups such as “London Independent Photography), galleries (e.g. Street Level, Glasgow), and festivals (e.g. Derby International Festival of Photography, now Format).”
So lets hope they don’t disappear and a few new groups begin to crop up as a result of their inspiration.
You can find more about The Photographers’ Place on their website: http://photographersplace.co.uk/ and details on their upcoming workshops in their workshop category including an upcoming Landscape workshop weekend with guest John Davies – June 4-6th 2010.
This post marks the start of a series on “out of town” events and facilities, which will hopefully become a regular feature.
