Photo Sheffield

From 3^rd of August – 26^th, Bank Street Arts presents a group show of work by Sheffield based photographers, supported by PhotoSheffield.org.uk

The work showcased incorporates a range of genres, including: documentary, landscape, photojournalism and portraiture; produced by 11 local photographers. Each photographer has been given their own space within the gallery to display their work and a brief statement about it or themselves.

The exhibition comes together as part of James Dodd’s photographic residency with the gallery, through which he is exploring the place of photography within the city of Sheffield.

James says:

“For a city the size of Sheffield, and for the number of photographers living and working here (there are at least 500 photographers studying on courses within the area each year), I don’t photographic events has been meeting the demand.

I’ve been researching the area for a while now, and have delivered a number of exhibitions so far including: Simon Roberts – Motherland, Berris Conolly – Sheffield 1988-2010 and a series of digital slideshows entitled In Camera – which have featured some of the most highly regarded emerging photographers the world over. But I felt the city needed to see more of the amazing work which was being produced right on it’s very doorstep.

I don’t really see this as much of a group show, but more of a series of smaller exhibitions for the individual photographers, almost like tasters which will hopefully leave you wanting to see more from each of their works.”

The exhibition runs from 3rd – 26th of August with an open evening with the photographers to be held on Thursday the 12th of August 6pm onwards, to which everyone is invited, and features the work of the following photographers:
